Live Jesus !
Samarpanaram, June 2007

Dear confrere!

Hearty Greetings from Bangalore! So many things are happening and I want to keep you up to date.

  1. I would like to express a heartfelt thanks to our Superior General, Fr. Aldino Kiesel, for taking so much time for us in India. His retreat and his presence were indeed a blessing to us.
  2. I would like to thank him for the retreat he gave us. It helped us to keep focused on our Founder and to grow spiritually. The text of his retreat is available; you just let me know if you need it.
  3. I would like to thank him for the confidence he puts in me. As you heard during the General Meeting he asked me to continue as Delegate Superior for India for two more years until May 2009. I accepted this appointment and am looking forward to work with you for the coming two years.
  4. I am also very happy to see the confidence he puts in you. As you can read in the minutes of the General Meeting, Fr. Aldino suggested starting to think about the possibility of having an Indian confrere as Delegate Superior from May 2009 onwards with the understanding that I would remain in India for a couple more years. The discussion during our General Meeting showed that you felt that it would be a good idea to follow up that suggestion. This means that in the coming two years talks will be going on as of who could be chosen by the Superior General as his Delegate among the Indian confreres from May 2009 on.
  5. During the last General Meeting a new advisory board was elected. I am happy to let you know that Fr. Mathew, Fr. Bala Dande and Fr. Maichael have been elected. I have asked Fr. Shaju to be the fourth member of the advisory board and asked Fr. Mathew to be my assistant. I am happy that together we are able to serve the Indian Mission.
  6. Let me take the opportunity to thank the confreres that are not on the advisory board any more. Thank you Fr. Fred and Fr. Xavier for two years of working, praying, and thinking together. It was good working with you.
  7. At our General Meeting we also took also three decisions, which you can find attached to this letter.
  8. I am happy to let you know that on June 8th 2007 we have paid some advance towards the purchase of a piece of land in Eluru for our novitiate. I would like to thank Fr. Xavier who spent a lot of time and effort in bringing this project into reality. Of course, the land is not yet ours, papers have to be checked, etc. but an important step has been taken. I request your continuous prayers in that regard and will keep you updated on the matter.
  9. The first advisory board meeting of the new administration will take place on June 30 and July 1st in Salespuram.
  10. Fr. Shaju, Fr. Baiju and I will attend the Meeting of Major Superiors with a special focus on Oblate/Salesian Formation from July 25th to August 2nd.
  11. The visit to the Philippines and of our confreres Fr. Josef and Fr. Bruzily was enriching. Together with Fr. General we spent most of the time talking, discussing, sharing, planning and praying. I continue to recommend our confreres in the Philippines to your prayers.
  12. Since my report during the General Meeting was so “long”, I refrain from adding more to this news letter.
  13. I add to this newsletter an updated address and birthday list and the minutes of the General Meeting and the decisions taken there.

I hope this letter finds you in good spirits!

God bless you!

Fr. Sebastian Leitner osfs
